Lucas Singer

Vita

Bass Lucas Singer has been a member of the permanent ensemble at Oper Köln for many years, where he has been able to develop a broad repertoire in recent seasons. He has appeared here as Sarastro in "Die Zauberflöte", Eremit in "Der Freischütz", Publio in "La clemenza di Tito", Zuniga in "Carmen", Biterolf in "Tannhäuser", Masetto in "Don Giovanni", Timur in "Turandot", Pistola in "Falstaff" and as Death / Speaker in Viktor Ullmann's "Der Kaiser von Atlantis". He has also performed roles in operas such as "Die Soldaten" by Bernd Alois Zimmermann, "Peter Grimes" by Benjamin Britten, Orff's "Die Kluge" and Beethoven's "Fidelio".

Lucas Singer began his career in the International Opera Studio of Oper Köln, moving to the permanent ensemble of Oper Köln in the 2014.15 season. In recent years, successful debuts followed at the Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Nationaltheater Mannheim, Oper Kiel, Landestheater Coburg, Theater Basel and Komische Oper Berlin.

In addition to his stage engagements, Lucas Singer pursues an active concert career, as documented by recordings of J. S. Bach's Mass in B Minor on the Spektral label and sacred works by Otto Nicolai on the Carus-Verlag label, among others. His repertoire ranges from the vocal works of the Renaissance to the great Romantic oratorios. Concert tours and guest appearances have taken the bass as far as the USA and Central America. But the art song is also very close to his heart, and so he frequently performs with different programmes dedicated specifically to this genre.

His roles at Oper Köln in the 2020.21 season include Sarastro in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" and Wagner in Gounod's "Faust". His most recent roles include the double role of Eagle / Voice of Zeus in Braunfels' "Die Vögel", Fafner ("Das Rheingold für Jung und Alt"), Zuniga ("Carmen"), Sarastro ("Die Zauberflöte"), Der Bauer ("Die Kluge") as well as in the new productions of "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" (Osmin), York Höller's "Der Meister und Margarita" (Chefredakteur Berlioz / Archibald Archibaldowitsch) and Panthée in "Les Troyens".
